Mastwood manages 50 acres of tree crops across the Rondout Valley using agroforestry design. integrates trees and shrubs into farming systems, creating multi-layered, productive landscapes that mimic our natural ecosystems which is an oak/hickory/chestnut forest ecotype. The trees crops we grow include; Chestnut, Hickory, Oak, Hazelnut, Persimmon, Mulberry, Elderberry and Aronia. Interplanted between tree crops we grow native shrubs and willows for woody cut bouquets and basketry.

We also manage a mature chestnut orchard in Accord where we pick about 500lbs a year and offer locally.

Surrounding our home farm we are also stewarding 100acres of forest with an NRCS EQIP Habitat Improvement Grant/Management Plan.

Stay tuned for events, roastings and presentations around the Hudson Valley!

Our farm name comes from the combination of two words.
“Mast” as defined in ecology is the fruits and nuts from trees and shrubs.
“Wood” used as a noun for a place of trees.
